AIDA | URBAN OPERA includes a series of projects with the common goal of evaluating the effectiveness of autonomous driving technology applied to future services to be offered to citizens.

AUTONOMOUS URBAN TRANSPORT OPTIMIZATION

URBAN OPERA | Autonomous Urban Transport Optimization: the first robo-sharing project, a crucial experiment for a sustainable and shared future mobility.

The goal of this project, developed in collaboration with A2A S.p.A., is to design and test an innovative car-sharing system for the city of Brescia, utilizing autonomous driving technology on a Fiat 500e. Thanks to this technology, the vehicle can autonomously reach the user who requests it and, at the end of the trip, can park itself or head towards a new user. A key feature of this initiative is the exploration of how autonomous driving can manage access to automatic docking stations for wireless charging for electric vehicles

JANUARY 22 – THE FIRST KILOMETER IN AUTONOMOUS DRIVING

On January 22, 2025, the electric Fiat 500 completed its first kilometer in fully autonomous driving mode on public roads under regular traffic conditions, marking the start of this innovative experimentation.

      SERRAVALLE FUTURE DRIVE

URBAN OPERA | Serravalle Future Drive: the experiment that integrates autonomous driving, the future of mobility, with the existing public transport system, promoting multimodal mobility.

The goal of this project, developed in collaboration with Milano Serravalle – Milano Tangenziali S.p.A., is to create an autonomous shuttle connecting the Green Gate of Assago (Cantalupa) to the Famagosta metro station in Milan, using a Fiat 500e.

This initiative represents a significant step towards more sustainable mobility with the aim of promoting multimodality in transport systems, allowing connections between peripheral areas and existing public transport services. It also serves as an important opportunity to test algorithms in different road environments, as both urban and highway segments are covered.

      SHARING FOR CARING

URBAN OPERA | Sharing for Caring: autonomous driving supporting the mobility of the most vulnerable, promoting inclusivity and solidarity.

In this project, funded by Fondazione Falck, the main goal is to develop an autonomous shuttle to support elderly and vulnerable individuals, using a Fiat 500e.

This initiative, which will take place in the municipality of Darfo Boario Terme, aims to ease the mobility of elderly users who no longer hold a driver’s license, allowing them to easily reach medical clinics, pharmacies, and other essential services without needing support from family or friends.

      URBAN AUTO LABS

URBAN OPERA | Urban Auto Labs: the future of mobility comes to life in Milan, with autonomous vehicles and participatory labs for companies, citizens and researchers to revolutionize the way of moving in the city.

URBAN OPERA | Urban Auto Labs is an innovative project promoted by the Politecnico di Milano and winner of a call from the Municipality of Milan as part of the Living Lab initiative. At the heart of the project is the testing of an autonomous vehicle on a section of the bus line 90-91, complemented by participatory labs that engage citizens and stakeholders with the goal of co-creating innovative and sustainable solutions for urban mobility.
