AIDA – Artificial Intelligence Driving Autonomous is an ambitious research project promoted by the Politecnico di Milano and part of MOST – Centro Nazionale per la Mobilità Sostenibile.
THE ISSUES OF MOBILITY

during the day

Electric car sharing: a possible solution, but partial

The car would be used by multiple people simultaneously and would not remain unused for most of the day.

The vehicle’s battery life would be maximized with more regular and continuous use.

Cars are often located far from the users who need them.

Economic sustainability is challenging.

autonomous driving

Shared vehicles capable of autonomously moving towards users, charging stations, and dedicated parking areas.

Travel time optimization

Energy resources optimization

Reduction of pollution, including congestion and CO2 emissions

Safety improvement

AIDA’s Innovative Visions for the Future of Urban Mobility
All tests carried out by AIDA, including high-speed and outreach demonstrations, are conducted with the goal of developing innovative mobility solutions, particularly for urban environments.
Robo-Sharing: autonomous car-sharing for the future of mobility
The idea of Robo-Sharing originates from AIDA’s vision as a unique and pioneering proposal that merges car sharing with autonomous driving.

KEY CONCEPT:
Un-manned operation
- Delivering the car to the user
- Park, re-assign, or take it to a charging hub
- The main route is manually driven by the user
Operations at low-speed (max 30kph)
- It reduces risks and complexity.
Active remote supervision
- In complex or unusual situations, the vehicle stops or pulls over and requests intervention from a remote supervisor, who provides simple planning commands.
- The AIDA solutions is NOT a remote driving; reques medium network requirement (4G) and a human operator easily handles edge cases
- (Al: 98% of effort to train for 2% of the cases)
Robo-Linking: the autonomous personal shuttle for multi-modal mobility
KEY CONCEPT:
- Autonomous
- Multi-modal
- Personal
- On-demand
- Shuttle
- Urban areas and highways

Robo-Caring: autonomous driving supporting the mobility of the most vulnerable

KEY CONCEPT:
- Low-speed car service for frail people
- Small villages without public transportation
- Assistance in carrying out daily errands, such as reaching:
– Pharmacies
– Hospitals
– Supermarkets
– The town center
- The service must guarantees:
– Accessability and safety
– Comfort and Well-being
AIDA: autonomous driving for the future of mobility
The goal of AIDA is to develop a reliable and highly effective autonomous driving technology capable of operating on public roads under real-world and complex conditions, fully compliant with traffic regulations. Autonomous driving will be a fundamental technology to lay the foundations for a sustainable future of mobility, capable of meeting the needs of citizens.
To achieve this goal, it is necessary to test and apply the developed technology in different contexts, with varying levels of complexity and complementary objectives.
